Tiled and accumulator stoves: heat that lasts
Tiled stoves do not heat the air, but walls, furniture and you. Load them once or twice a day and the chamotte core radiates for hours. We build them to order from tiles, mastku or plastered chamotte.
How do they differ from fireplace stoves?
Fireplace stoves provide heat immediately but lose it quickly. Tile stoves have a heavy chamotte core and a draft system where flue gases transfer heat to the stove mass. The surface has a lower temperature, radiates evenly and does not release dust. Therefore, they are suitable for bedrooms and places where heating is used all day.
Construction variants
- Classic tiled stove with hand-laid tiles, traditional and smooth modern shapes and glazes.
- Rendered heat storage stoves: chamotte core with smooth plaster, clean minimalist appearance.
- Soapstone stoves: a magnesite cladding that absorbs and releases heat even more slowly.
- Tiled stove with heat exchanger or with an oven and bench for living kitchens.
- Hypocaust heatingstoves built into a wall that heat two rooms at once.
Why a low-energy house?
A tightly sealed house with minimal heat loss cannot withstand the rapid output of fireplace stoves and will overheat. Accumulating stoves provide low output for extended periods and, with external air supply, do not compete with mechanical ventilation recovery. They are usually the only correctly functioning fire in such homes.
Construction and Time
Tiled stoves are built on site from the core, flues and casing. Depending on size, construction takes several days, followed by gradual drying before the first full fire. An inspection of the flue gas path is included.
Questions we are asked
How many times a day is fuel added to tiled stoves?
Usually once or twice a day. One load of wood heats the core, which then radiates heat for eight to twelve hours depending on the stove size and house insulation.
Are tiled stoves suitable for an apartment?
Yes, provided the flat has its own chimney with an appropriate flue and a load-bearing floor; stoves are heavy. Surveying and floor statics assessment are the first steps.
How long does building a tiled stove take?
Usually three to seven working days depending on the size and complexity of the stove, plus a technical pause for drying before full firing.
Describe the room to us and we will provide a proposal and an appointment date.
Just a few details are needed. Within 24 hours on working days we will get in touch with the next step, usually a free survey and chimney inspection. No obligation.
