Pellet stoves: fire with thermostat control
Load the pellets, set the temperature and let the stove do the rest: it ignites, regulates and switches off automatically. For those who want wood-fired warmth without carrying logs. With a heat exchanger, it can heat the entire house.
How pellet stoves work
The screw conveyor feeds pellets from the hopper into the burner, the fan supplies air and the electric heating element ignites them. The control unit maintains the set temperature, supports weekly programming and often includes smartphone control. Depending on output and frost conditions, the hopper lasts one to several days.
What is included in the installation
- Chimney or flue pipe. Pellet stoves have forced flue extraction but still require a flue path and an inspection.
- Electrical socket by the stove; without power the stove will not operate.
- Air supply, external for airtight houses.
- Setup and trainingpellet quality, burner cleaning, ash removal.
Pellet stove with heat exchanger
The version with a hot water heat exchanger connects to an accumulation tank and heating system, functioning as a small automatic boiler in the living room. Regulation based on outdoor temperature, one source for the entire house. Details on wiring can be found on the page stoves with a heat exchanger.
Who it suits and who it does not
Yes for households seeking comfort and constant temperature, for holiday homes with remote control, and for those without space to store wood. No for those who want the crackling of logs and silence: pellet stoves have a fan and feeder that are audible.
Questions we are asked
Do pellet stoves require a chimney?
Yes. Although they have a mandatory flue gas extraction system, they still require a flue gas path and an inspection just like wood-burning stoves. The diameter of the flue is usually smaller, which simplifies installation.
How often should cleaning be carried out?
The burner and ash pan should be cleaned approximately once a week with daily operation, depending on pellet quality; the heat exchanger and flue several times per season. Certified pellets significantly improve cleanliness.
Do pellet stoves operate without electricity?
No, the feed auger, fan and control unit all require power. In the event of a power cut, the stove switches off safely. For versions with a heat exchanger, overheating protection is handled in the same way as for wood-burning stoves.
