Custom fireplace built around your room
A fireplace is not a stove with a cabinet around it. It is a construction: insert, insulation, flues, enclosure and connection to the chimney, designed for a specific room. We will select the type, draw up plans, build it and hand it over with an inspection.
Three types of fireplace, depending on how it should heat
- Hot-air fireplace. Air is heated around the insert and flows into the room through grilles. Fastest heat, simplest installation. Can be distributed to adjacent rooms.
- Heat storage fireplace. Flue gases pass through chamotte flues or storage rings that heat up and then radiate warmth for hours. One to two loads per day provide constant heat without overheating. Suitable for low-energy houses.
- Water-heating fireplace. The insert with heat exchanger transfers most of the heat to the water and heating system. Details on the page. stoves and inserts with heat exchanger.
Fireplace insert: what matters
Performance, glass shape (flat, corner, three-sided, viewing), opening method (tilt or doors), combustion chamber material and external air supply. We work with inserts from European manufacturers that meet Ecodesign standards and have available service and spare parts.
Materials for fireplace enclosures
- Calcium silicate boards and plastering. Smooth, minimalist fireplace, quick installation.
- Fireclay and heat storage bricks. Base of an accumulation fireplace, heat for hours.
- Stone, brick, large-format ceramics: natural finish, custom cladding.
- Tiles. Traditional and modern smooth fireplaces, hand-laid by a mason.
What we ask during the survey
Where the chimney is located and what type of flue it has, what the floor and ceiling are made of, where the windows and doors are positioned (airflow), whether the house has a heat recovery system or an extractor hood, how much wood you want to use and how often you intend to add fuel. The design is based on these factors, not on a catalogue.
Questions we are asked
Do I need a building permit for constructing a fireplace?
A fireplace inside a house generally does not require permission, as it is an internal modification. However, an inspection of the flue gas path is mandatory before commissioning. A new chimney on the façade or structural intervention may require notification; we will verify this based on the specific property.
How long does a custom fireplace installation take?
Depending on the type, usually two to five working days; longer for accumulative fireplaces with a draft system. Before the first firing, a technical pause is required for the materials to dry out.
Can a fireplace be installed as a DIY project?
A skilled tradesman can handle the enclosure of a simple air-heating fireplace, but connecting it to the flue, insulating it from combustible structures and the inspection are areas where mistakes cost the most. For accumulator and water-heating fireplaces we always recommend a stove installer.
Describe the room to us and we will provide a proposal and an appointment date.
Just a few details are needed. Within 24 hours on working days we will get in touch with the next step, usually a free survey and chimney inspection. No obligation.
